I've been playing the piano at Sunway Medical Centre (SunMed) since September 2017. It's been about one and a half years now. I've been blessed to be able to play at the hospital to share my music to the people there whether it be patients, reception staffs. nurses, doctors etc. I feel so bless that many listeners appreciate my piano instrumentals and I have received quite a number of thank you notes, flowers, coffee, word of thanks and thumbs up. The music style that I play is normally slow ballad with accompaniment style like Richard Clayderman. All the songs that I play are by ear and memorized. I started with about 30 songs in my database (my head ). Now I have about 80 songs by heart now.
I really appreciate the encouragements from the audience especially if its a patient. Since I play by ear, when I play, I often observe people who are listening to the piano and I will try to gauge what kind of song should I play; whether to play an English song, Chinese song or oldies. Just about 2 weeks back as I was playing at the Tower C, I noticed a lady walking towards another lady and she hugged her and started crying. They were standing near to the piano. I was emotionally caught by surprise as I looked at her hugging the other lady for quite a while. Suddenly, I tried to put myself in her shoes. I started thinking; could she have just diagnose with a disease or her close one is very sick. It made me think how fragile life is. It's not something that you can control. I imagined all the people that was surrounding me trying to think of what were the problems they are facing. There are some who are visitors, some college students from Sunway College to some sales representatives selling medicines to doctors there. After a few minutes, the two ladies settled down and sat at the coffee bean table and ordered drinks. Both of them are about middle age and so I decided to play some songs from the eighties. After about 30 mins, the lady approach me and said 'thank you for the beautiful music. It feels good listening to you play in the midst of having problems'. I really don't know what to answer but I just said 'You're welcome'
Just 2 days ago, I saw a man in a wheelchair with a lady (I think it's his mum). I have been seeing him for almost a year now in the wheelchair. But this time, he step up from the wheelchair and used the crutches to walk to the coffee bean sofa. He looked fine. Then after a while, he suddenly broke down in tears. He was probably in his early 30s. I observed the lady trying to comfort him. I really don't know what is the story behind him unable to walk properly. But after a while he calmed down and 2 more ladies joined them to have a drink and they seem to be having good conversation. I could see him, talking and smiling again.
At times, I wish I could play the piano to unleash the sorrow, emotions, sadness in the person. Just to release all these negativeness and feel the calmness from the music. Probably I can do it to a certain extent but it is only God who is able to give calmness and peace to a person once they have Jesus Christ in their lifes. It's been a very blessed and happy journey for me playing in SunMed. I thank God for the opportunity to be able to play there. I hope to continually play beautiful music to serenade the people surrounding the piano at Tower C and Tower B
That's all for my sharing this time. I would like to leave with 3 verses from the bible
The Lord gives strength to his people, the Lord blesses his people with peace.
Psalm 29:11
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre (Harp) and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.
1 Samuel 16:23

I’ve been playing the piano since I was a small kid and I dreamt of being a pianist. I love music so much that I want to use music to touch the others and make a difference in their lives. However, God decided that I become a nurse. Being a nurse in Singapore back then, and in the church, music continues to live in my soul; singing, dancing and, involved in musicals were my healing time. This brings joy and passion for my love in nursing. Each time I touch a patient, I am emotional, trying to understand what they are going through. When I became a yoga teacher, my hands become the healing touch and my music become a therapy in classes. And I’m glad I can enjoy your music in SunMed on Mon to Wed. Despite I don’t play the piano anymore, everyone notes you play brings back beautiful memories of my life journey. I always believed God crossed everyone’s path for a reason…hands that heals❤ Alice
Thank you Alice for your encouragement. Maybe you continue to touch people’s heart be it at the hospital or your yoga classes 🙂
